First Nations Governance Courses

We know many First Nations councillors want practical knowledge that links to traditional knowledge, guides, templates and plain language when it comes to governance. We are deliberately in the weeds with your training because that is where councils operate, at the grass roots.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

The running for council course is showing as $500 for unlimited learners, is this right?

Yes!  We want as many people as possible to understand the roles and responsibilities of a First Nations councillor. If you have an election coming up we can even customize the course by adding your election documents into the course.

How long does a councillor have to complete a course?

One year. After the year they can still stay a member of the community and ask or answer questions.

What information will the First Nation receive about the individual councillor taking the course?

Unless the councillor has been directed to take the course via council resolution we would not provide individual information back to the community. If all councillors are  taking a course we could provide an overview of where they are at. As an example 2 of 5 have completed, or on average the group has spent 1.4 hours on the course. If you want reporting please contact us as it is important that the councillors all input in the same community in order to group them.  As an example if some councillors used Behdzi Ahda but others used Colville Lake it would be difficult to create a report.

  • Orientation to Role
  • Chairing a meeting
  • Finance
  • Conflict of Interest
  • Private Meetings
  • Confidentiality
Our community of learners lets councillors connect with other councillors all across the country. Sharing ideas, asking questions, getting support is what our community is all about.
